3 Secrets to Wedding Photos You’ll Treasure Forever
A Kelowna wedding photographer’s guide to feeling present, relaxed, and beautifully yourself on your wedding day
Your wedding photos should feel like you — honest, emotional, and alive. But so often, couples get swept into timelines, expectations, and a thousand tiny details that can dilute the joy of the day.
After years of photographing weddings across Kelowna, the Okanagan, and destinations abroad, I’ve learned that the most meaningful photos don’t come from perfect posing or Pinterest checklists. They come from presence, connection, and trust.
In my Mini Guide + Workbook: 3 Secrets to Wedding Photos You’ll Treasure Forever
Mini Guide, I share three beautifully simple shifts that help couples feel grounded and confident — and help create the kind of photographs you’ll treasure for decades. Today, I’m sharing those secrets with you.
1. Presence > Perfection
One of the most powerful things you can do on your wedding day is also the simplest: slow down.
On page 2 of the guide, I encourage couples to take a few intentional breaths throughout the day — to notice the sound of laughter around them, the warmth of a hand squeeze, or the scent of a bouquet drifting by Mini Guide. These little pauses anchor you back to what matters most.
When you're present, your expressions soften, your body relaxes, and your photos naturally become more authentic.
Perfection doesn’t photograph nearly as beautifully as presence does.
A reflection for you:
What one detail do you want to remember 30 years from now?
2. Private Moments = Magic
Some of the most intimate, breathtaking images happen in the quiet spaces — the ones where no one else is around.
In the Mini Guide, I recommend carving out a 10-minute moment at sunset to slip away with your partner. On page 2, I describe how these gentle pauses often become the most cherished, candid photographs in the entire album Mini Guide.
There’s something about the light, the calm, the just-married glow that creates effortless magic. You’re no longer performing for guests or thinking about schedules. You’re simply together. And that is what photographs beautifully — the unguarded, in-between moments.
A reflection for you:
How do you want to feel in those private, in-between moments?
3. Trust Your Team
You’ve chosen your vendors for a reason — so let them hold the logistics while you soak in the experience.
On page 3 of the guide, I talk about how the best photos happen when you’re fully in the moment and trusting the professionals you’ve invited into your day
Mini Guide. When you trust your photographer, you don’t have to think about where your hands go or whether a moment looks “good.” You can simply be, and I’ll take care of the rest. Trust creates ease. And ease always shows in your photos.
A reflection for you:
What’s one thing you can let go of worrying about on your wedding day?
The Heart Behind These Three Secrets
These three pillars — presence, private moments, and trust — are more than photography tactics. They’re an approach to your wedding day that centers emotional connection, joy, and authenticity.
When you feel grounded, safe, and supported, your photos become heirlooms — not just images. They hold your energy, your story, your softness.
This is the foundation of how I photograph every wedding: with calm direction, gentle intuition, and an eye for the moments that matter.
